neXtOper@ / Oper@_PiXeL – Video documentation with students (December 2001)

Video documentation of an interactive performance staged in December 2001 with students, within Sergio Maltagliati’s neXtOper@ / Oper@_PiXeL project (2001–2003). The wider project reinterpreted opera through early mobile media systems — mobile phone ringtones, logos, icons, banners, ASCII art and digital images — and networked visual communication, situated at the transition between early net art and emerging mobile media culture.

The project belongs to the historical continuity connecting Pietro Grossi’s experimental research with later internet-based and generative audiovisual systems developed by Maltagliati. Exhibition contexts of the larger cluster include Galerie De Meerse (Amsterdam) and the Presidenza del Consiglio Comunale — Sala di Lorenzo at Palazzo Vecchio, Florence.
