netOper@
Sergio Maltagliati, 1997
Telematic opera / generative net art
netOper@ (1997–2002) was one of the early Italian collaborative telematic opera projects, developed by Sergio Maltagliati through internet-based interaction and generative audiovisual structures. The work explored distributed participation, networked creativity, interactive visual and sound environments, and real-time transformation systems. It emerged in continuity with the historical research of Pietro Grossi and the HomeArt experiences.
Originally built on Flash/SWF, netOper@ became progressively inaccessible after Flash support was withdrawn from mainstream browsers. A restoration and migration process toward HTML5 has been initiated by the artist to preserve the interactive structures, generative systems, visual behavior, and sound interaction logic.
Historical documentation and recordings are preserved on the artist’s Internet Archive profile at archive.org/details/@visu_1.
